2012 Mercedes C63 AMG  Coupe

Mercedes hasn’t even revealed the C63 AMG Coupe yet and people are already dreaming about a Black Series version for it. This will be the second Black Series model offered for the new C-Class after the sedan version set to be released later this year.

The Black Series models are all about being more aggressive and more powerful than the standard C63 AMG version. Expect to see a new rear diffuser, quad AMG-style pipes, and also a sportier interior with lots of carbon fiber and aluminum insertions.

The biggest question, however, is what’s under the hood. Recently some information was leaked that confirmed that the C63 AMG Coupe version will get the same V8 engine as the sedan version, so expect to see a tuned-up version of the same V8 in the Black Series model. For example, in the SL65 AMG Black Series model, the output has been increased from 525 HP to 650 HP. We expect to see the same treatment for the C63 AMG Coupe version, perhaps maybe an increase form 450hp to 575hp.

UPDATE 04/25/2011: BenzInsider is now reporting that the C63 AMG Black will come packing the same 6.2L V8 engine found in the current C63 AMG, but tuned to deliver 507 HP. Coincidentally, that is the same power output found in the CLK63 AMG Black Series. The website is also reporting that the C63 AMG Coupé Black Series will be available in five exterior colors and will include customization options like an optional rear spoiler.

The new C63 AMG Black Series will be less expensive than the CLK Black Series, which came with a €150,000 price tag, or $218,624 at the current rates, back in 2008.

UPDATE 07/04/2011: Beyond Canada is reporting that the new C63 AMG Black Series will be previewed on July 23rd 2011 Night of the Stars. Also, if you were waiting to see the sedan first, then you were wrong as it seems that Mercedes will only offer - at least for now - a coupe version of the car.

Mauro Calo Breaks The Record For The Longest Car Drift

We apparently couldn’t have picked a better time to get a little drifting crazybecause, as of June 19, 2011, Mauro Calo has officially entered the Guinness World Book of World Records with the longest car drift. Calo and his completely unmodified Mercedes C63 AMG sports sedan have smashed the existing World Record by 394 meters achieving a total distance of 2308 meters. This feat will get his name scrawled on the record books, adding yet another title to his established driving career.

To achieve the record breaking distance, Mauro chose part of the Handling Circuit at Mercedes-Benz World, Weybridge Surrey. The circuit provided a complete 360 degree circle of tarmac which saw him complete almost 8 laps.

Andrew Mallery, Commercial Operations Director, Mercedes-Benz Cars commented: “When Mauro approached us to hold his record breaking attempt on the circuit at Mercedes-Benz World we were happy to offer him the support. He has been a valuable member of the driving experience team for several years and is a respected driver in the industry, so there was no doubt he would achieve his aim”.

The latest Mercedes-Benz C-Class Coupe
Mercedes have chosen the 2011 Geneva Motor Show to unleash their new C-Class Coupe. The unveiling happens in March but the car will only be available in September in the US. Here are some early details however to whet your appetite. At launch the C-Class Coupe will be available in 2 engine options; a 3.5 litre V6 gasoline engine, capable of 302hp which comes in the C350 and a 1.8 litre 4-cylinder turbocharged engine which comes in the C250. Both options will come with a 7-speed automatic transmission. The head of sales and marketing at Mercedes-Benz, Joachim Schmidt, mentions that the new Merc C-Class Coupe is “youthful, stylish and expressive” and is targeted at new customers. I’m not quite on the same ‘youthful’ vibe that he is on but the new C-Class Coupe definitely works well on the stylish front. The lowered roofline and 2 less doors go a long way on creating a more sleek and streamlined car than the C-Class sedan it is based on.
